HOW THEY MET: Met at Huntingdon College, dated for a few months and stayed good friends throughout college. They saw each other again in 2005 during Homecoming weekend. They started talking that night and have been together since.
THE ENGAGEMENT: It was during tax season, so Jacqueline was definitely not expecting anything. Rian asked her for a "date night" since he had been so busy at work. They had dinner at a restaurant in downtown Fairhope called Mateers. Afterwards, Rian asked if she wanted to get some ice cream and take a walk. They went back to Rian's house and he said "This has been a pretty perfect night, but there is only one thing that would make it even more perfect," and pulled out the ring and asked her to marry him.
FAVORITE DATE: On their second date, Jacqueline met Rian at his home and he drove her down to watch the sunset over Mobile Bay. They then went out for dinner at Jesse's in Magnolia Springs. Afterward they returned to Rian's house to watch "Casablanca," a movie she had always wanted to see.
WHAT SHE LOVES MOST ABOUT HIM: His sense of humor and how he can always make her laugh; his ambition and his desire to learn something new all of the time; his ability to know the most random useless historical and current event facts. She loves that family is such a priority to him. She adores the little things that he does for her that he thinks she doesn't notice. Most of all, she loves the twinkle he gets in his eyes when he looks at her.
WHAT HE LOVES THE MOST ABOUT HER: Her smile; her ability to make him laugh and to laugh at herself, which is a rare thing; the fact that she acts interested when he's throwing out useless facts about nothing; her caring nature; and most importantly how she is always herself, no matter who is around.
WEDDING COLORS: Burgundy and burnt orange
WEDDING THEME: Timeless and reverent, with a carefree/fun atmophere.
WEDDING FLOWERS: Fall foliage. Burnt orange, red and yellow orchids, lilies and roses, surrounded by looped grass leaves were in the bridal bouquet; bridesmaids carried stalks of burnt orange orchids, and groomsmen/ushers had burnt orange mini calla lilies with red hypericum berries as boutonnieres. Mothers carried burnt orange stalks of freesia and grandmothers carried burnt orange red rose bouquets.
WEDDING CAKE: Four-tiered square with buttercream icing in ivory with red borders at each layer and a red monogram of the couple's initials. Flavors of the layers were chocolate, vanilla, almond and yellow. The cake was topped with burnt orange orchids and greenery.
FAVORITE PARTIES: An engagement party thrown for the couple by the groom's sister and brother in law at their Fairhope home. It was buffet-style and was the first chance for the two families to meet. The couple also had a Stock the Bar party thrown by some family friends at their home for families and close friends to enjoy an evening of fun in Point Clear.
THE THING THAT WE WOULD HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY: We would've stuck to our first instinct on decisions, because we always ended up coming back to the original ideas.
WHAT WAS UNIQUE: The flower girl carried a silver pail with rose petals instead of the traditional basket; the ring bearer carried a sterling silver vintage ring box instead of a pillow, the bride's cousin made each bridesmaid a handmade glass pendant in the wedding colors of burgundy and burnt orange.
HER ADVICE TO OTHER BRIDES: Do not stress over the details. Enjoy being engaged and make sure that you keep the wedding focused on the two of you.
THREE ADJECTIVES TO DESCRIBE THE WEDDING: Timeless, inviting, carefree.
HONEYMOON: Royal Porto Real Resort in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
