The Florists
The Rose Bud Flowers and Gift Shop
The Rose Bud Flowers and Gift shop, located in Chickasaw, Al, has a special story for a unique shop. Twenty-four-year veteran floral designer Sheila Kirksey began her career soon after her son was born. While she was on maternity leave caring for her son, Sheila's husband gave her a bouquet of flowers. Although Sheila was grateful for her husband's thoughtfulness, she was disappointed by the design of the bouquet. Growing up in the catering business and often working with flowers as a hobby, she decided to go into business for herself. With an "I know I can do better" attitude, Kirksey opened Rose Buds.
Sheila states that the best time to book your florist is after you have set the date and location of your wedding. Knowing your color scheme and the colors of the bridesmaid's dresses also helps in selecting the floral arrangements to best fit your wedding's design.
"I love dealing with the brides and their mothers and being able to create their dreams," Kirksey says, "I am always accessible, especially to my brides. They can call me or meet with me anytime - that's what makes us different." Their commitment to the customer is in wonderful addition to the beautiful floral designs coming from the hands of these friendly professionals.

Southern Veranda
Raised around gardens and flower shops, the owner of Southern Veranda, Carl Clark Jr., left a career in education to pursue his dream. "I enjoy reaching inside a person's heart and creating their vision," Clark says of his dream, now being in the floral business for the past 27 years. He goes on to say, "What makes us different is that we always listen to individuals so we can truly find their style."
Clark's unique personality and visions shine through his floral masterpieces. He has an amazing ability to beautifully mix traditional and non-traditional pieces such as pheasant feathers and roses.
Clark points out a growing trend of incorporating sentimental items, such as a grandmother's handkerchief or a mother's brooch, into a bride's bouquet or the groom's boutonniere. This past season his most popular colors have been pink and white, mostly in the form of peonies, hydrangeas and mini calla lilies. Whether for a wedding, or simple gift, Southern Veranda carries everything you need to make your flower dreams come true.
