Emergency Kits to the Rescue

by Jennifer Perrin
A well-planned emergency kit can save the day.

Your wedding day will be one of intense and careful planning to make everything as perfect as your dreams! The weather is great, everyone is on time and in place, and you look amazing! However at thirty minutes until showtime, your adorable flower girl walks in with a not-so-adorable tear in her dress. Do not panic! Being armed with a wedding day emergency kit, prepared well in advance, is a great way to avoid stress when mishaps occur. The following is a list of everyday items to include to give you a solution for any problem that may arise.

Beauty School Basics

Make-up - Be sure to bring the EXACT make-up used earlier in the day. If your make-up was done professionally, purchase the products to guarantee the colors match perfectly.

  • Q-tips dipped in make-up remover can help clean up any smears and smudges that may appear. Smudged eyeliner or mascara can create a tired, raccoon look in photographs.
  • Soft facial tissues are a necessity when it comes to those teary moments. Be sure to dab at your face, NOT WIPE, and check your make-up afterwards.
  • Straws are an ingenious way for you and your bridal party to drink without ruining your lipstick. Just plop, sip, and quench!
  • Blotting paper or translucent powders can be used to get rid of any shine caused by oil or sweat which makes your face shine like the northern lights in pictures.
  • Bobby pins are extremely important in keeping those up do's, up. Loose locks can be safely secured with strategically placed pins. If wearing your hair down, hairspray can keep those cascading curls tight, or bring a flat iron to keep those luscious locks perfectly straight.
  • A nail file and matching polish can be used to touch up chipped or broken nails. Just be sure not to get any on your dress while waiting for the polish to dry.

Clothing Calamities

  • Love your shoes, but hate the way they rub your feet? Try placing a band-aid over the rough spot in the inside of the shoe to comfort your sore spot.
  • Rubbing alcohol is a great aid in cleaning up deodorant marks and it evaporates almost instantly.
  • Double stick tape - to keep things where they should be. Need I say more?
  • Stain remover or white chalk can be extremely useful to hide the stain left by Aunt Ida's retro chic lip color, or any discoloration that appears.
  • Back ups - Always pack extra shoes in case a problem with your stilettos arises (perhaps jeweled flip flops for a bit of that southern ingenuity.) Also, make sure to bring one or two pairs of extra nylons.
  • A small sewing kit is an important tag-along. Come equipped with safety pins, straight pins, thread colors matching the dress entire wedding party, and scissors for any quick fixes.

Wedding Day Essentials

  • Hairbrush.
  • Unscented deodorant (Scented versions may mix with your perfume choice, creating an unpleasant odor.)
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, and dental floss.
  • Feminine products.
  • Snacks. Bringing along snacks such as fruit, energy bars, or even a ready to eat sandwich can help cut fatigue. No one wants to see you pass out from low blood sugar on your big day. Drink lots of water and stay far away from junk food and caffeine, which can give you a feel-good buzz, but leave you tired in the end.

Though they may seem unimportant and tedious to pack, these are essential for the wedding day bustle. To make these products more convenient for you, choose travel size versions of your favorites to keep you fresh all day long.
