A Cinderella Story

   By Rae McConville

Take an old fashioned ride in a horse-drawn carriage to start your future together! Adding dramatic flair to your wedding or reception, a horse-drawn carriage adds just the right amount of old Southern charm to any wedding.

Whether formal or informal, a horse-drawn carriage can be customized to fit your day. Typically, drivers come dressed in tails and top hat, but will switch to hula skirt and coconuts if your party calls for it. Harold Garrett with A1derful Ceremony & Carriage of Dreams in Pensacola, FL, will decorate either of his black or white one-horse carriages for any occasion. “We like to make it as romantic as possible,” Garrett says.

Customizing your carriage will give your guests a feel for your style as a couple, and create a lasting memory for them to take away from your wedding day. Carriage of Dreams will decorate their carriages with romantic roses, and happily work with your florist to have your wedding flowers incorporated.

Garrett recommends planning out the route for your carriage ride before requesting an estimate from the carriage company. Try to keep the route less than three miles.

It is important to give your carriage company plenty of notice, especially for the busiest months (Garrett says May through October). Try to notify the company at least six months in advance in order to ensure availability.

When getting an estimate, expect a basic hourly rate, with additional fees for mileage (to your route from the company location) and caring for the horse. Most carriage companies will travel to you – Carriage of Dreams will travel within a 100 mile radius of Pensacola.

Harold Garrett of A1derful Ceremony and Carriage of Dreams provides both black and white carriages.
